Seven Tips to Tap Into Abundance
by WITHIN Meditation Teacher Herky Chopra
When you reflect on the goodness in your life, what comes to mind? Is it certain people, material comfort, safety, career, or health? What else?
If your mind is clouded or restless at this moment, don’t rush for an answer. Take a few deep breaths and try to move from your thinking mind and instead drop into the body. Feel your hands, your breath, your heart beating, and your feet on the floor. Then look at your surroundings.
What is present, and what are you grateful for? Feel the emotions associated with this flow through your body as you breathe in and out.
When we are trapped in conceptual thinking and negativity bias, our mind constantly seeks to scan for ‘what is wrong or missing in my life.’ The evolutionary process is at play here, but when we deliberately shift our mindset and acknowledge the good in our life, we give our brains the opportunity to rewire and create new neural pathways giving us the ability to experience more joy and contentment.
This perspective shift is not to benefit anyone on the outside but for us to live in a mental real estate that is not full of clutter and confusion but rather a mind that is settled and at home with itself.
Tapping into abundance does not mean forced or fake positivity but rather taking a broader perspective that does not ignore the everyday things we take for granted. It is also helpful to reflect on the learnings and growth that different life experiences have brought forth.
Here are seven tips to tap into abundance consciousness:
Be self-aware; become aware of your thoughts. When you practice mindfulness, you are acutely aware of the content in your head. As you witness awareness beneath those thoughts, you can loosen their grip instead of being caught up in the whirlpool of scarcity or projection of fear.
Practice and express gratitude often. This helps cultivate a positive mindset and attracts more success and abundance. Gratitude is not in the words but in the heart which expresses it. A sense of gratitude has been shown to improve mental health, increase resilience, reduce anxiety and depression, and promote well-being. This quote from Om Swami sums it up “Gratitude is the mother of happiness.”
Challenge your underlying beliefs around lack and abundance. Try to shift your focus from fear, lack, and scarcity to love, creativity, and plentifulness.
Stay in the company of people who are uplifting and whom you look upon as your mentors, friends, and well-wishers.
Check for “black-and-white/all-or-nothing” thinking. When we face a challenge, we tend to focus on the problem and write off other possibilities. Instead of ruminating over the same issue, try to create an expanded focus and a growth mindset about other possibilities that you may not have looked at.
Choose your words: What you constantly tell yourself and others shapes your reality. Recognize what is in and out of your control, and change the language around it. Do you often use words like “never, too hard, give up, not possible for me,” or do you use words like “let me try, what else, plan B, learning from mistakes, etc.”?
Focus on what is going right. Instead of dwelling on what is going wrong and trying to fix the problem, shift your focus to what is going right, and acknowledge that the path you are on right now is not set in stone. Life is constantly evolving, and it’s best to move with the flow.
It is helpful to be intentional and take time out of your day to focus on things that bring you joy, things that may seem insignificant to others but mean a lot to you personally. Take time to appreciate and savor the present moment, express thankfulness for your physical health, and nurture your body. Soak yourself in the beauty of trees and flowers or the vastness of oceans and mountains. Show kindness toward those around you, and appreciate how far you have come in your own journey.
The universe is eternally abundant, and nature is eternally giving; you need to align yourself with this same energy.
When you choose to live life to the fullest, you will find that there is plenty of everything in the world to go around. Those who walk the path of abundance live a more fulfilling and prosperous life.
